Bolec Watchdog Panels: Fault Memory That Speeds Up Real-World Diagnostics

The EM301, BEM302, BEM502, and BEM502IRN all share the same intuitive Fault Memory Recall & Reset system.
This guide explains why this feature matters, and how to use it effectively with a step-by-step video demonstration.
Bolec Watchdog panels include a built-in Fault Memory function — a valuable feature that stores the causes of recent engine shutdowns.
This allows operators to diagnose issues quickly and prevent costly repeat failures.
By contrast, many standard Murphy Watchdog models (depending on model) do not include multi-event fault memory by default.
They typically indicate only the current or latched fault, which means that once power is cycled, the cause of the previous shutdown may be lost.
Note: Comparison based on common configurations. Always check the official specification of each model.
Why Fault Memory Matters
Faster Diagnostics in the Field
- Check up to six past shutdown events in order.
- Identify intermittent issues such as low oil pressure dips or high temperature spikes.
- Know exactly why the engine stopped — even if it happened overnight or during unmanned operation.
Prevent Repeat Failures
- After repairs, clear the fault memory so only new events are recorded.
- Use the LED records for simple, reliable maintenance reporting.
- Avoid unnecessary restarts and reduce engine stress.
Supported Models
BEM302
BEM502
BEM502IRN
All models share the same Recall and Reset operation.
Bolec vs Murphy (Typical Configurations)
| Feature | Bolec Watchdog (EM301 / BEM302 / BEM502 / BEM502IRN) | Typical Murphy Watchdog |
|---|---|---|
| Multi-event Fault Memory | Included (up to 6 stored faults) | Often not included by default |
| Recall Operation | Single RECALL button, simple sequence | Usually limited to current/latched fault |
| Reset Confirmation | Audible beep confirms successful clear | Model-dependent |
| Practical Benefit | Faster fault tracing and reduced downtime | Possible data loss after power cycle |

Step-by-Step Video Guide
In this video:
- Live demonstration of Fault Recall and Reset on a Bolec Watchdog panel.
- Explanation of LED flash patterns (No.1–No.6 = event order).
- Operator tips for reading indicators clearly in bright conditions.
How to Recall Stored Faults
- Press and hold the RECALL button.
- Turn ON the key switch while holding the button.
- All LEDs flash once → release the button.
- After 1 second, all LEDs flash twice except LED No.1 — this means the first fault will be displayed.
- The LED that remains ON shows the fault source (OIL, TEMP, ALT, LEVEL, etc.).
- Press RECALL again to view the next stored fault. Up to six can be recalled.
LED flash count corresponds to the fault number — No.1 to No.6.
How to Reset the Fault Memory
- Press and hold the RECALL button again.
- Keep holding until you hear a beep, then release.
The beep confirms that all fault records have been cleared. This is recommended after maintenance or repairs.
Quick Reference
Recall
Hold RECALL → Turn Key ON → LEDs flash once → Release → After 1s, all flash twice (except No.1) → LED ON = fault source.
Reset
Hold RECALL until beep → Release → Beep confirms cleared memory.
Best Use Cases
Irrigation & Agricultural Pumps
Identify shutdown causes after overnight or unattended runs. Helps plan service priorities and minimize water loss.
Generators & Mobile Machinery
Track intermittent vibration or oil pressure events common in heavy-duty or off-road environments.
FAQ
Do all Bolec panels use the same recall procedure?
Yes. EM301, BEM302, BEM502 and BEM502IRN share the same method. Other brands or legacy units may differ.
How many events can be stored?
Up to six shutdown events. Press RECALL repeatedly to step through each record.
Nothing displays after a reset — is that normal?
Yes. Once cleared, new events will be logged from the next fault onward.
