🕰️ From the Archives: The Bolec DCS 599 “Energise to Stop” Module
At Bolec Electronics, we’ve spent decades building rugged, reliable modules to protect engines in the toughest conditions—long before CAN bus and digital ECUs became the norm. One example from our archives is the DCS 599 Energise to Stop Module.
Though it’s no longer in regular production, the DCS 599 represents the kind of practical, no-nonsense engineering that earned us trust across fleets, OEMs, and remote-site operators.
⚙️ What It Did – And Why It Mattered
The DCS 599 was a solid-state delay module designed for engines that required a delayed shutdown signal to activate a “stop” solenoid—a common feature in mechanical diesel engines before widespread electronic control.
When the engine’s run signal was removed (typically when the ignition was turned off), the DCS 599 would apply power to the energise-to-stop solenoid for exactly 60 seconds, allowing a controlled shutdown. After that, it returned to standby with zero power draw.
🛠️ Built for Simplicity and Survival
Wide voltage tolerance – 12V and 24V systems
Visual diagnostics – with clear Green and Red LED indicators
Fail-safe polarity protection
Tough ABS housing built for field serviceability
It was commonly paired with our DCS 968 Auto Start or DCS 497 Manual Start controllers in everything from remote pumps and gensets to heavy mining vehicles.
📉 Why It’s Less Common Today
Modern engines often don’t need an external stop solenoid—they’re controlled directly by ECUs that handle shutdown logic internally. As a result, the demand for external “energise to stop” modules has dropped significantly.
That said, you might still find DCS 599s out in the field, working just as reliably as the day they were installed.
👣 What It Represents
While the DCS 599 may no longer be a current product, it reminds us—and our customers—of Bolec’s long-standing commitment to practical innovation. Every product we build is designed to solve a specific problem in the real world, not just in theory.
Whether it’s legacy support or next-generation CAN-compatible modules, we bring the same focus to simplicity, durability, and clarity.
