Engine protection, automatic shutdown and fault history in one panel
The BEM302 is a compact electronic engine watchdog panel for trucks, buses, boats, agricultural machinery and stationary engines. It monitors six connected fault inputs, allows the engine to stabilise during starting, then provides warning and automatic shutdown when a valid fault is detected.
- Monitors six engine or machine fault inputs
- Startup delay prevents nuisance shutdown during cranking
- Audible and visual fault warning
- Automatic engine shutdown output
- Fault Recall stores up to six fault events
- 12VDC standard; 24V version available
How the BEM302 protects the engine
One simple sequence explains what happens from starting through to shutdown and diagnosis.- Engine startsThe machine uses its normal starting controls.
- Startup delayOil pressure and charging conditions are allowed to stabilise.
- Monitoring activeThe six connected protection inputs are watched continuously.
- Fault detectedA connected switch changes state because an abnormal condition is present.
- Alarm and shutdownThe warning and shutdown outputs are activated.
- Fault retainedFault history can be recalled for troubleshooting.
What the BEM302 monitors
All six published protection functions are kept together in one table so they are easy to find.| Low oil pressure | Monitors the connected oil-pressure switch and initiates shutdown when a valid low-pressure fault is detected after startup. |
|---|---|
| High engine temperature | Uses the connected temperature switch to protect the engine when the configured high-temperature condition is reached. |
| Alternator / belt failure | Monitors the charging or belt-failure input so loss of alternator operation can be identified. |
| Loss of coolant | Can monitor a compatible coolant-level circuit to detect coolant loss before severe overheating occurs. |
| Configurable spare input 1 | Can be allocated to an additional engine or machine protection condition. |
| Spare input 2 / pump loss of prime | Published with pump loss of prime as the default application and may suit another configured fault function. |
See the stored fault history after the engine has stopped
The BEM302 does more than indicate that a shutdown occurred. Its published Fault Recall function allows up to six fault events to be recalled, helping operators and technicians investigate recurring or intermittent shutdowns.- Review fault history after shutdown
- Assist diagnosis of intermittent problems
- Confirm the protection inputs during commissioning
BEM302 vs Murphy 09PWP12V09 engine protection panel
The BEM302 can be a practical Murphy Watchdog alternative for suitable applications, but the two products use different panel formats and must be selected by function, wiring and required instruments.| Selection point | Bolec BEM302 | Murphy 09PWP12V09 / D3 Watchdog |
|---|---|---|
| Panel format | Electronic six-input engine protection panel | Gauge-based weatherproof engine protection panel |
| Monitored functions | Oil pressure, engine temperature, alternator / belt failure, coolant loss and two spare inputs | Oil pressure, engine temperature and water pressure Swichgage functions |
| Automatic shutdown | Yes — electronic shutdown sequence | Yes — Murphy 518 shutdown relay |
| Timing | Startup delay for protection during cranking | Published with a run timer up to 100 hours |
| Fault history | Fault Recall of up to six events | No equivalent six-fault memory is listed on the current Bolec Murphy product page |
| Tachometer / hour meter | Not listed as a standard BEM302 function | Published with 0–3000 RPM tacho / hour meter |
| Replacement guidance | Do not assume a direct or pin-for-pin replacement. Verify supply voltage, sensor and switch types, shutdown logic, output load, panel dimensions and required instruments before replacing a Murphy panel with a BEM302. | |
Murphy, D3 Watchdog and Swichgage names are used for product identification and application comparison. Specifications can vary by panel configuration.
