FAQ
What does the WL701 do?
The WL701 is a low coolant level alarm designed to warn you when coolant drops below the probe. It can trigger a buzzer, warning lamp, or relay output to help prevent overheating and costly engine damage.
Is the WL701 suitable for both 12V and 24V systems?
Yes. The WL701 is designed for 12V and 24V DC negative ground systems.
Will it give false alarms when driving off-road?
The WL701 includes an approximately 7 second slosh delay to average out coolant level fluctuations caused by vehicle movement, helping reduce nuisance alarms on rough terrain.
Can I install it myself?
Yes, if you are comfortable with basic 12V/24V vehicle wiring. The module connects to ignition power, ground, alarm output, and the probe. Keep sensor wiring away from motors, solenoids, and ignition systems to avoid interference.
Can it be used with a plastic tank?
Yes, but plastic tank installations require an additional earth path so the sensor circuit can operate correctly.
How do I test the unit after installation?
With the ignition on, remove the wire from the probe. In about 7 seconds, the LED should light and the alarm should sound. For a more definitive test, lower the coolant below the probe and confirm the alarm operates as expected.
Does the probe need maintenance?
Yes. Because some coolant inhibitors and conditioners can leave build-up on the probe, it is recommended to inspect it after 6 to 8 weeks and use that result as a guide for future maintenance intervals.
What happens if the probe wire breaks?
The WL701 includes a fail-safe circuit designed to sound the alarm if the sensor connection is broken.
